IRON is an essential mineral that helps to make red blood cells which transport oxygen around the body. Without healthy red blood cells your body can’t get enough oxygen and without sufficient oxygen in the body, you may become fatigued.

Lacking in energy, constantly tired, or feeling fatigued may be a sign you are low in iron. Other signs include: difficulty concentrating, brittle nails, and hair, cracked skin around the corners of your mouth, or impaired immune function.

If your iron levels get depleted you may develop anaemia. People who have coeliac disease may have difficulty absorbing iron.

Some dietary sources of iron include red meat, this form is known as haem iron, and is the easiest to absorb. Other sources include fish, green leafy vegetables, brown rice, pulses, lentils, nuts, seeds, eggs, fruit, and tofu.

Most diets provide adequate levels. The iron found in plant-based food requires vitamin C to convert it to haem iron. People who may need extra iron include those on restricted diets, menstruating women, or those donating blood. The demand for iron increases during pregnancy and breast feeding. Iron is an important mineral for a baby’s brain development.

Drinking excessive tea or coffee can inhibit iron absorption from food.

Many people experience constipation and stomach pain when they take haem-based supplements. This is often the reason people stop taking them. Floradix Liquid Iron doesn’t cause these problems. I use it regularly to boost my energy levels.

My iron is often low, I presume this is as a result of not eating red meat. Floradix Liquid Iron has B vitamins, and Vitamin C to enhance digestion and absorption. I’m happy it doesn’t have any of the side effects such as constipation or stomach cramps.

Not everyone who is tired will need iron. Some of you have too much iron in your blood, you may have a condition known as haemochromatosis. Extra iron would be the worst thing you could do. You may have symptoms similar to those with low iron levels. The best way to be sure if you need iron is to have a blood test done.

And if you do, and you’re tired feeling tired, Floradix Liquid Iron might give you the lift you need, it’s something that works for me.
