EMERGENCY SERVICES AND REPAIRS Certain services and access to your home

-

It may feel like the world has come to a standstill, that life is currently on pause, but things still get broken during a pandemic, and not every emergency is of a medical kind. Although we are still living within government restrictions, certain services and tradespeople are allowed access to your home. Plumbers, electricians and repairmen continue to operate for essential work, while mechanics and breakdown crews are also still operational for motor emergencies and servicing.

While the thought of someone entering your home during a pandemic may be daunting, all of these tradespeople are well aware of their obligations and requirements in terms of Covid-19 and will take the necessary precautions.

In addition, there are measures you can take to protect not only yourself, but the people that are carrying out the emergency work for you too. For starters, arrange a time of visit and wear a mask.

When the worker arrives, no doubt they will be wearing theirs as they enter your home, so as a courtesy and to protect them, it would be advisable for you to do the same. As a general rule it’s a good idea to have hand sanitiser near your front door to use entering and exiting the house anyway, but it’s definitely advisable for any workman coming into your home to sanitise at the point of entry.

It’s also a good idea to clean off the surfaces that they’ll be working on with antibacterial wipes beforehand and after the job is complete. This applies whether it’s wiping down a sink that a plumber is coming to take a look at or wiping down the handles and steering wheel of your car before and after the mechanic has carried out repairs. By taking little measures like these, it can keep us all safe from Covid-19. It’s worth noting that, at this stage, very few people are insulted by taking a thorough approach to the virus.

In most cases, workmen, tradespeople and mechanics will be grateful and will feel that their working environment is actually safer while they sort out whatever problem it is you have in a quick, efficient and cost effective manner.

With travel restrictions having eased somewhat, now may be the time to ensure your vehicle is in working order. If your car tyres are worn and bald, or your headlight bulbs need replacing you can bring your vehicle to a garage or request a call from a mechanic.

Covid or no Covid, it’s imperative that when driving we make sure our vehicles are well maintained and safe on the road. Therefore you shouldn’t hesitate to contact your local expert tyre fitter or garagr to ensure your car is still running well and in tiptop shape.

In the case of an emergency, you won’t have much choice.

If you breakdown on the side of the road, then you’ll be left with little option but to contact a mechanic to come and help, or a recovery service to tow you to safety. Be assured though that our local mechanics will know exactly what to do to keep both you and themselves safe in the current Covid climate.

Things are incredibly difficult for everyone at the moment, but it’s great to be able to have these services to fall back on in the case of emergency. While quite rightly our healthcare workers are lauded for their hard work in battling the pandemic on the frontlines, there are also a whole host of other workers who are absolutely vital to keeping us going too.
