Retired haulier to run as an Independent in locals

-

FORMER haulier Joe Druhan has been named as the latest candidate to run for the Wexford Independent Alliance ( WIA) in this summer’s local elections. Joe, who is from Our Lady’s Island, will run in the Rosslare Municipal District (RMD) alongside fellow WIA candidate Jack Barden. Now retired from the haulage industry, Joe had operated his own transport firm until the business closed in 2021.

“I have decided to stand as an independent candidate with the WIA in the upcoming local elections because party politics is failing the people,” he said. “As a haulier working out of Rosslare Europort for over five decades, I have seen first-hand the neglect of party politics. Most recently, the approach of the parties to the current Save Our Nursing Home campaign in Rosslare Harbour has been shameful and has spurred me on to stand in local elections.”

Joe is caretaker of the cemetery in Our Lady’s Island and works on the upkeep of the graveyard grounds. He is also a member of the Our Lady’s Island Pilgrimage committee and acts as maintenance manager of the local primary school in Broadway.

And he says this is the perfect time in his life to run for council.

“This is actually something I have thought of doing for many years, but I simply did not have the time to commit properly. Retired, I do now have that time, I am deeply involved in my local community, and I meet people daily who are tired of the empty promises. The WIA can bring about the change people want as it can offer public representation that is free of party censorship”.
