Parkinson’s group raises thousands from sale of hit calendar

- By DAVID LOOBY

Fethard on Sea man Paddy O’Shea who is living with Early Onset Parkinson’s has yet again raised an impressive amount from the sale of his popular calendars for the charity Eopd.ie.

Paddy’s love of photography of the Hook peninsula has seen his calendars in high demand again this year. He raised several thousand, donating all the proceeds to the charity and to pay for classes at Farrell Fitness in New Ross for Early Onset Parkinson’s sufferers.

His images are taken by both camera and drone. They are now in many homes here and across the world.

Paddy was keen to to have some of the money raised to be brought back to the community that have supported his fundraiser, so he has got funding for the exercise class for people with Parkinson’s in New Ross. This successful class that is facilitated by Robbie Farrell of Farrell Fitness was set up by Clonroche woman Mary Casserly two years ago.

“Robbie does a great job of doing the exercises that we need to help us keep well with Parkinson’s and there is a lovely atmosphere with a good team spirit,” said Paddy (59) who was diagnosed nine years ago. He said despite his illness he plays golf regularly and enjoys walking and going to the gym with ten to 12 other Early Onset Parkinson’s sufferers.

“We also go for a coffee afterwards and share tips on what else helps us to manage this disease.” Paddy would like to thank everyone who sponsored, stocked and purchased his calendar as the support he has received is really appreciated.
