ST. HELEN’S BAY

We are delighted to announce that St. Helen’s Bay Golf Club has achieved the Women in Golf Gold Standard Award.

St. Helen’s Bay GC was one of the first golf clubs in Ireland awarded the Gold Standard at Golf Ireland’s AGM on March 23.

“Myself and Dermot Walsh, as the club’s nominated Charter Champions, are extremely proud of this achievemen­t as, since it started in 1993, the ethos of the club has always been on equality, inclusion and diversity,” Janet Slattery, Charter Champion, said.

Having equality in terms of membership categories and access to timesheets is of vital importance to the club and therefore everyone, members and visitors alike, are treated equally and always welcome at our club.

There will be an instructor from Golf Ireland in attendance to guide us through the rules, answer questions and provide helpful tips. The night is primarily for beginner golfers, but golfers of all levels will be warmly welcomed. There is no need to book.

Our open mid-week singles competitio­ns commenced on Wednesday which normally heralds the start of summer. With the weather this year one would wonder, but “hope springs eternal” as the saying goes.

Thankfully the weather relented somewhat on Sunday after Storm Kathleen put paid to golf being played on Saturday. Golfers were delighted to tee it up on Sunday despite the tough conditions.

Our open Seniors competitio­n takes place on Thursday, April 25, and is sponsored by Flowers by Grace.
