Adamstown still contenders

-

SHELBURNE MOVED to the top of Division 1 after a 3-1 home win over Bree United, a result that keeps them in the hunt for promotion although they are fast running out of games.

Laura Butler was on target for Bree, but goals from Kate O’Keeffe, Katie Murphy and Ella Foley gave the Ballywilliam girls their tenth win of the season.

Adamstown sit eight points behind the leaders but have six games in hand, so they will also have to be considered serious title contenders after a 10-0 win over a young Courtown Hibs side.

Jasmine Martin scored a hattrick with Ellen Duggan, Ella Fitzpatrick and Hannah Kehoe all getting two each, with the experienced Sandra Thorpe also getting her name on the scoresheet.

Goals from Eadaoin Miskella, Niamh Millar and Layla Fenlon saw Fastnet Rovers overcome Curracloe United 3-2 in a very entertaining Division 2A match. Ciara O’Leary scored both goals for the seasiders as Rovers recorded their second win of the season.

Carnew picked up their third win of the season when they overcame Seaview United’s second team 5-0, a win that keeps them in contention for the Division 3 title.

Two goals each from Ella Doran and Leanne Twamley plus one from Laoise Doran gave Carnew the three points.

Ferns United got an easier passage than expected through to the Premier 1 Shield decider when St. Leonards were unable to pull together enough players to travel for their scheduled semi-final on Sunday morning.

Ferns will now meet Adamstown in the final, with the date and venue to be announced in the coming days.
