Sheil shines with bronze medal in triple jump test

JUVENILE MEMBERS of St. Killian’s AC set off to compete in the open sports, held and hosted by St. Senan’s club.

Well done to Aidan, Henry, Joe, Jacob, Lauren, Conall, Clodagh, Molly and Clio who competed and enjoyed the occasion.

On Easter Monday, senior members headed to Rosslare for the annual road race hosted by Wexford Triathlon Club.

Brian O’Shaughness­y was in good form and finished in fourth place in a time of 19 minutes 49 seconds.

Nicola Doyle finished the 5k in 120th place in a time of 33 minutes 28 seconds. Maura Culhane and Joanne O’Connor competed in the 10k, with Maura home in 74th place in a time of 48 minutes 50 seconds and Joanne finishing in 118th place in a time of 52 minutes 41 seconds.

Cameron Sheil competed in the triple jump at the national Juvenile championsh­ips and can feel well pleased with himself. He had his work cut out, with the championsh­ip record taking first place.

Cameron finished in the bronze medal position with a PB of 10.80m. Focused Cameron stuck to his plan of action and training and achieved a national bronze medal. Well done, Cameron.

Well done to senior athlete Jack Forde who played his part for DCU to win the varsity athletics at the Mary Peters track in Belfast last weekend.

Jack retained his pentathlon title in wet and windy conditions and took home four medals in total: gold in penthatlon; joint gold in high jump (1.90); silver and a PB in 100m in 18.54 seconds; bronze in the shot put (13.11m). DCU won the combined events (men’s and women’s) and overall trophy.

Outdoor training for Juvenile athletes has now reverted back to the track at the local Crossabeg-Ballymurn community field at Garrywilli­am, Crossabeg. It’s Monday evenings for all ages from 7-8 p.m., and on Thursday evenings for the older ages only from 7-8 p.m.
