Talented St. Leonards lift Under-12 Premier crown

AFTER THEIR exploits on Monday evening when St. Leonards clinched the Under-12 Premier Division title with a 2-0 win over Gorey Rangers, they played out a 1-1 draw away to New Ross Town on Saturday.

Caitlyn Kelly scored for Ross with Eve Cullen, who also netted the two goals on Monday, on target for St. Leonards.

The race for runners-up in Under-12 Division 1 is becoming very congested, with only one point dividing three teams after Aughrim overcame Curracloe United 1-0 on Saturday.

Pippa Canavan scored the only goal of a very closely-contested game.

St. Joseph’s remain in contention for second place in Under-12 Division 2A after they travelled to Cushinstow­n and came away 2-0 winners.

Serena Scallan scored both goals for the visitors to give them their fourth win of the season.

On Sunday morning, North End also kept their promotion hopes alive when they travelled to Corach Ramblers and edged out a seven-goal thriller, 4-3.

Rosslare Strand caused a major upset in Under-12 Division 2B when they inflicted the first defeat of the season on leaders Courtown

Hibs, moving themselves into the title race in the process. Aoibhe Byrne scored two for Strand with Aoife Hayes also on target.

Ballymurn Celtic picked up their third win of the season with a 2-1 win over Gorey Rangers seconds, while two goals each from Nuala Heneghan, Erin Colfer and Adrianna Flood plus one apiece from Evelyn Furlong and Emily Murphy secured Seaview’s 8-0 win at home to Bree United.

The long-delayed IFAC Under-12 second round cup tie saw Bridge Rovers eventually book a quarter-final meeting away to New Ross Town when overcoming New Ross Celtic 3-0. Robin Lillis scored all three goals for Rovers.

Coolboy Rangers travelled to Ballindagg­in and booked their place in the IFAC Under-12 cup semi-final with a comfortabl­e 6-0 victory.

Eva Willoughby, Maisie Elliot and Ellie Wybrant all scored two goals each, with the club having a bonus on the day when they were also declared Premier Division runners-up as a result of the 1-1 draw between New Ross Town and St. Leonards.

Fastnet Rovers edged to the top of the Under-11 Division 2A table when they beat Gorey Rangers Red 3-1 on Saturday.
