T Morris pub seeking permission for major extension
ONE of Wexford town’s most popular nightlife spots is seeking permission for a major extension by knocking through into neighbouring buildings.
Taken over by the Mooney family from Adamstown in 2021, T Morris has gone from strength to strength since and now the owners are hoping to expand their offering even further by knocking into neighbouring buildings at O’Rahilly Place – which are currently being used by DNG Auctioneers.
The plans were submitted to the local authority by Saramat Ltd, a company under the directorship of Ciaran and Marie Mooney.
The plans state the company’s intention to “extend the existing T Morris Bar and incorporate the floor areas at ground level and first floor, importantly to integrate the elevations into the adjacent building on O’Rahilly Place – currently in use by DNG.
“The adjacent building has been in use as a commercial office space by DNG Auctioneers for some years. This application seeks approval for a change of use from office to public house at ground and first floor of the DNG building.”
It stated that the development would “provide a cohesive landmark corner building”.
The proposed development would see a new shopfront installed to match the existing T Morris premises.
The application also noted that “as the DNG building is shallow in depth, the increase to the ground floor area of the new enlarged bar will be minimal” and that “the focus of this proposal is to improve storage, increase toilet facilities and create the landmark elevation for the destination pub, within the established entertainment area for tourism.”
With the pub having had a first floor space in previous iterations, its restoration would likely be for the creation of a function and event space.
