Des Bishop confirmed for Spiegeltent Festival
WEXFORD’S funniest adopted son Des Bishop has been announced as the latest headline act for this year’s Spiegeltent Festival.
The comedian, who moved from Queens, New York to Wexford town as a teenager in the 1980s where he studied at St Peter’s College, is bringing his new show ‘Lately’ to Wexford Spiegeltent Festival on Friday October 25.
Des’ new show takes a hilarious look at the changes that have taken place in recent years – changes around the world, in Ireland and in particular changes in Des’ life. ‘Lately’ is a hilarious, in-your-face stand-up show that talks about all this and more as Des tries to make sense of all the changes in his life and all our lives.Sign up to the This is Wexford newsletter here
The Des Bishop announcement is the latest act for Wexford Spiegeltent 2024, with the comedian joining Keith Barry, Cry Before Dawn, Amble and Kingfishr as confirmed shows.
Since moving from Queens, New York to Wexford in his midteens, Des Bishop has carved out a highly successful stand up career and is one of the most enigmatic forces on the international comedy circuit.
His acclaimed television series on RTÉ include The Des Bishop Work Experience (2004), Joy in the Hood (2006), the award winning six episode comedy documentary series In the Name of the Fada (2008) and most recently, Des Bishop’s Election (2016).
In 2011, RTÉ broadcast a critically acclaimed documentary made with his terminally ill father, My Dad Was Nearly James Bond.
In 2014 Des spent a year living in China learning Mandarin, as depicted in the six part documentary series broadcast on RTÉ, Des Bishop: Breaking China.
Des has released five stand-up DVDs including Des Bishop Live (2005), Tongues (2008), Desfunctional (2009) and Made in China (2015), which all charted top ten.
