CROSSABEG OVER 35’S SOCCER

Last Friday saw Crossabeg Over 35s win their first game of the season against Taghmon.

They went 1 down after twenty minutes but battled back through Fergal Buckley before the break, after being set up by Alex Wilson. Not long into the second half, Crossabeg took the lead, with Fergal once again scoring the goal with an assist from Donnacha Redmond.

A great first win for the men with determination coming from behind. Crossabeg’s first home game takes place this coming Friday, May 24th at the local grounds in Newcastle at 7.30 p.m.

CONDOLENCES

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of the late Mary

Roche (nee Beaver) Garrycleary, Crossabeg, which occured on Monday, May 13th. A stalwart of Wexford Golf Club, she had a very friendly disposition and a warm welcome for everyone. She has been described as a kind, loving and generous lady.

She will be sadly missed by her husband Philip, sons Paul and Gary, daughter Lorraine, sister Sadie, brothers Desmond and Harry, her Aunt Betty, daughter-in-law Michelle, brother-in-law Michael, sisters-in-law Marie and Margaret, grandson Nic, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

She reposed at Mulligans Funeral Home on Thursday last with removal to Crossabeg Church for Funeral Mass on Friday and burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.

CHURCH NEWS

There will be no Adoration in the Church today, Wednesday, May 22nd. The structure of Parishes going forward in the future may mean that we cannot have four Masses on Saturday and Sunday in the Crossabeg/Ballymurn Parish. This could mean just one Mass in each Church either on a Saturday evening or a Sunday morning.

In order to find out the preferences of the people, there will be a vote taken in both churches this coming weekend. Material will be available with pens and boxes to make your choice.

ATHLETICS

Following the conclusion of the County Juvenile Championships held over the past few weeks, three young St. Killians athletes in the U9-U11 categories were rewarded for the ‘Best Combined Score’ over 4 events. Scarlett Ryan first overall in the Under 9 category; Darragh Redmond, second in the Under 10 category and Joe Fortune third in the Under 10 category.

The Summer Road Races season is well underway. Niall Sheil has been busy supporting a few of them and recently competed in the Taghmon 5K in aid of the Handball Club and also Wexford CBS 5K. Both events were well organised and supported, raising valuable funds for local community and also offering a competitive and social outlet for those competing. Niall was in great form, taking the win in both events. Well done Niall.
