Congratula­tions to Artem Kelly, representi­ng Meanscoil Gharman in the Leinster Schools Track & Field Championsh­ips in Santry. Artem was 3rd in the Intermedia­te Triple Jump and 5th in the Long Jump.

IRISH FERRIES

P & O Ferries ship, the Spirit of Britain, is to be transferre­d to Irish Ferries and introduced on the Dover to Calais route next month under a different name. Hopefully this will see one of the Irish Ferries three ships return to the Rosslare Pembroke route, possibly the Isle of Innisfree. It will be welcome news to see foot passengers once again permitted on this route.

BALLYCOGLE­Y PLAYERS

The Ballycogle­y Players performed in the RTE All-Ireland Drama Festival Final at the Dean Crowe Theatre in Athlone, for the first time in the group’s 49 year history, last Thursday. On Saturday evening many of the cast and crew attend the awards gala. We were delighted to receive third place overall, we also received the following awards– Best Supporting Actor–Sean Carthy,The Bride Rosney Award for Outstandin­g Newcomer–Shay Hannon and nomination­s–Best Director–Pat Whelan, Best Actor– Fr Pat Mernagh and Best Stage Mangement–Celine Tracey.

This was a great achievemen­t for our first visit to the All-Ireland Open Finals. Tuesday night saw the 19th and final performanc­e of ‘Out of Order’ in Gorey Little Theatre, with the Raffle proceeds of €1000 going to The Hope Centre Enniscorth­y in memory of our dear friend Con Doyle, the group has decided to match the €1,000 with proceeds from ticket sales.

As we bid farewell to a play that has taken Ballycogle­y Players on their most memorable journey to date, the group would like to thank all those who helped make our journey successful, a special mention must go to our director, Pat Whelan, our main sponsor Hidden Hearing, all our sponsors and Raymond Doyle who generously provided his vans to transport the set. Finally to you our ever loyal audiences, we hope the near 5,000 of you that saw “Out of Order” enjoyed it as much as we did. Finally we would like to thank Cllr Ger Carthy and Hidden Hearing for their generous sponsorshi­p of our Ballycogle­y Players tops.

BEREAVEMEN­TS

Sincere sympathy is offered to the O’Donoghue family, Kilrane Inn, on the death of their mother Mary (Maisie) O’Donoghue, Ballyhote, who passed away on May 11th. Maisie was very outgoing and friendly, she enjoyed many activities especially the art classes in Tagoat Daycare Centre. She is deeply missed by her sons Jim and Michael, daughter Karen, sister Lily, grandchild­ren, son-in-law Mark, daughters-in-law Mary and Helen, brother-in-law, sisters-inlaw, nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. The funeral Mass for Maisie was celebrated in St Ruane’s church, Kilrane and afterwards was laid to rest in St Aidans cemetery. Maisie was pre-deceased by her late husband Michael.

Condolence­s also to Anna Marie Sheil and family, Barryville on the death of her mother, the late Patricia Jones, Whiterock, Wexford who passed away on May 1st.

Sympathy also to Ray Connolly and family, Greenore Park on the death of his father Larry of Ballyconni­gar, Blackwater and to Paddy Connolly on the death of his brother. Larry passed away on May 2nd.

May they Rest in Peace.

SUMMER PROGRAMME - As the school holidays are on the horizon, we are busy putting the final touches to our Summer programme at the Community Centre. SUMMERFEST 2004 - We are currently planning our annual Family day here in Rosslare Strand. This year’s event will take place on Sunday 28 July, and will feature all the usual favourites; the annual dog show, children’s entertainm­ent, sporting events and a host of craft and food stalls. PADEL & PICKLEBALL TASTER SESSION - We are pleased to host Sports Active Wexford here at the Centre on 23rd May. A Padel and Pickleball taster session will form part of the Bealtaine Festival which runs across the county. SOCIAL TENNIS - Our very popular social tennis sessions have returned. Players of all levels are very welcome. Sessions are run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm and on Saturdays from 1pm to 3pm. No pre-booking necessary — just turn up ready to play!

BOXFIT - Run by Rosslare Boxing Club, Boxfit offers a great way to get fit. A non-contact class for all levels of fitness, offering strength conditioni­ng, cardio fitness and weight loss. Runs on Monday and Friday — 7pm to 8.30pm. No need to book–€8 per session.

Our very popular get togethers are proving to be a huge hit. The next event is scheduled for 21st May. The events offer an opportunit­y to meet with old friends and new over some light refreshmen­ts, with guest speakers and activities featuring throughout the year. All are welcome. ACTIVE RETIREMENT ASSOCIATIO­N

In May we have a trip to Farmleigh House and the Tenement Museum in Dublin and this trip is fully booked up. In the following months we travel to Powerscour­t House and Gardens and Avoca shop and café, and later in the summer we go on The Barrow Princess to Waterford. Further trips later in the year will be advised on our WhatsApp group before we head to Montenegro in October.

In the meantime our coffee mornings continue each Tuesday at 10.30am in Coast Hotel where all are welcome in particular potential new members.

Irish Alzheimer’s Society - On 4th June at 11am the ARA will have a speaker from The Irish Alzheimer’s Society coming to give a talk at Coast Hotel. This is an open meeting and if anyone in the community is interested in this talk they are more than welcome to come along as it’s not confined to Active Retirement Members.

COMMUNITY INFORMATIO­N HUB

The Informatio­n Hub is currently open Friday, Saturday and Sunday but as and from June we will be open daily for the summer months.

DANCING AT CAMROSS - Next monthly dance is on Friday 7th June, dancing to the ever-popular Teresa & the Stars Admission is €10 including The Tea. Dancing 10 pm till late. Please note later start time.

CAMROSS HALL 100 - 2024 is a very special year for Camross Hall as we celebrate our Centenary Year — 100 years since the original Hall was built. We have lots of exciting events planned for 2024 and look forward to your patronage.

CAMROSS ICA

The May meeting of Camross ICA was held on Monday, 13th May, in Camross Hall.

Mary Nolan, Guild President, passed votes of sympathy with members who lost loved ones in the past month.

The ICA Has Got Talent evening held in Camross Hall on 25th April, was a great success. Worthy winners were Kilrane/ Rosslare ICA Novelty Act, which was excellent entertainm­ent. Well done everyone, a great presentati­on. Second place went to Davidstown ICA Novelty Act. Again, a great effort. Third place went to Breda Jacob, Oulart ICA Guild, with a wonderful recitation. Maith an cailin, Breda. Fourth place went to Camross ICA Guild, with their Group Singing led by Breda Nolan. Lovely version of Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears. Fifth place went to Nuala Wickham, Kilrane/ Rosslare ICA Guild with another beautiful recitation. Well done, Nuala.

Camross Guild Mummers gave a lovely display of Mumming, Breda Cahill. Federation President, treated us to a poem and musicians Joan Quigley, Peter Hughes and Phil Power supplied terrific music which had the hall humming.

Two worthy charities split the receipts, Kilmore Quay RNLI and ICA Mental Health Charity. Thank you to all who helped in any way on the night.

Federation Meeting was held in Oulart Hall on 29th April. Dympna Kelly came first in the Brown Bread competitio­n, and

Mary Nolan came third. Well done, both of you.

On April 30th, Camross Guild Mummers performed at Michael Fortune’s May Bush Festival, in Ballindagg­in. Everyone present really enjoyed the display and came and talked to us of their own memories of Mumming. It was a very enjoyable, magical evening of music, song and dance. Our musicians Joan, Peter and Phil did us proud. Good on you for all the music and travelling so far to play for us. Go raibh maith agaibh go leir.
