Flashmob puts on show for shoppers
CUSTOMERS at the Bridgewater Shopping Centre were in for an unexpected treat on the bank holiday Monday as a flashmob of dancers gathered to put on a show.
Around 40 ladies who take part in SOSA dance classes in Arklow, Gorey, Wicklow town and Cabinteely took part in the flashmob.
All the ladies had a video to help them practice the Thriller mash-up routine in the weeks before the bank holiday, then they held a short practice run before hitting the shopping centre.
‘We flew Katy Barrow, creator of SOSA, over from the UK to hold a sold out masterclass in ArkloW Pipe Band Hall, which then followed into a quick practice and straight over to the Bridgewater for our flashmob,’ explained Laura Gannon of Laura’s Health and Dance Fitness in Arklow.
‘It was fantastic! Because we were coming from all around, we only had the Monday to practice but they all had a video to practice off of for about 2-3 weeks plus they were practicing hard in every class they attended,’ she said.
The flashmob plans were top secret so shoppers were a little unsure of what was happening when the ladies started busting their moves.
‘We had plenty of strange faces! People were trying to guess what was happening, walking in amongst the group dancing, not realising and quickly turning the other way but most of all we had such a cheering and supportive crowd watching that I think it eased a lot of the ladies who are not used to dancing in public.’
‘I have to say, I am very proud of all these women who have worked hard to help achieve such a great flashmob. Keep an eye out for future performances – they want more now!’ she said.
Laura sent her thanks to the Bridgewater Shopping Centre for accomodating the group and allowing them to perform on the bank holiday Monday.
