Huge crowd welcomes Santa Claus to Coolboy
THE excitement was palpable in Coolboy on Sunday as the annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony and Santa visit took place.
Approximately 1,000 spectators lined out from Coolboy and neighbouring communities as the magnificent tree in the village centre was lit up for Christmas.
Young and old lined the main road through the village as they enjoyed carol singing from Coolfancy NS choir and appearances from famous characters including Olaf the snowman and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
MC for the evening was well known local singer Des Willoughby and the blessing was performed by local clergy members.
The boys and girls couldn’t believe it when they saw Santa Claus coming over the hill is his specially decorated sleigh which could be seen far in the distance. He met with many local children and made sure to put them on the nice list and took not of their Christmas wishes.
Despite the inclement weather, this was one of the best attended ceremonies yet and credit goes to the Christmas Lights Committee and a small army of volunteers who stage the event every year, free of charge.
