Donough­more and Donard Christ­mas Mar­ket takes place on Satur­day, De­cem­ber 8, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Donough­more Hall. You can visit all the usual stalls: cakes, toys, bric-à-brac and oth­ers; en­joy tea, mince pies and hot choco­late. Ad­mis­sion is free.


The foot­ball club AGM was held in Donard Hall last Fri­day night and nearly ev­ery­one there got a job.Fr Ea­monn is club pa­tron. Seán Byrne, Pat O’Neill and Paddy Toomey are pres­i­dents. Colm Toomey is chair­man with Lau­rence Daly Vice-chair­per­son. Jerome Kelly is still sec­re­tary with Séa­mus Daly his as­sis­tant. Conor Healy is the new trea­surer as­sisted by Eoin Kelly. Shane Kelly is Ju­ve­nile sec­re­tary. Bren­dan Daly will look af­ter the fix­tures. Bren­dan Daly and Colm Toomey are joint Reg­is­trars. Niall Cur­ran and Colm O’Neill are now health and Well Be­ing Of­fi­cers. Ray Hal­lo­ran and Alan Daly are the play­ers’ rep­re­sen­ta­tives. Cul­ture Of­fi­cer is Jerome Kelly.

The County Board Of­fi­cers are Peter Case and Mick Wal­she backed up by Amanda But­ler and Brian Len­non. Tadgh Fen­nin will be Club Trainer with Keith Fur­long and Bren­dan Daly his helpers. Barry Met­calfe and Paddy Toomey will look af­ter the ju­nior team. Last but not least is Larry Daly, who will be grounds man.

There was no win­ner of the jack­pot last week. Nora O’Neill and the Tatty Fam­ily matched three and won €100 each. The jack­pot now stands at €7,500.


The an­nual Christ­mas Can­dle­light Carol Ser­vice will take place in Donard Church on Sun­day, De­cem­ber 16, at 3 p.m. Ev­ery­one is wel­come to come along and share in this lovely mean­ing­ful ser­vice and get away from the hus­tle and bus­tle of the hec­tic prepa­ra­tions for Christ­mas. We look for­ward to see­ing you there.

Sym­pa­thy is ex­tended to the Quin­lan fam­ily Donard on the death of Una. Una is mourned by her hus­band Johnny, son Ge­orge, daugh­ter Lind­sey, mother-in-law Brid­get and many rel­a­tives and friends. Una’s fu­neral took place in Donard on Mon­day, Novem­ber 26. Sym­pa­thy also to Brid­get Bar­rett on the death of her brother-in-law John. May they rest in peace.

PAR­ISH HIS­TORY BOOK A new book by Chris Lawlor

en­ti­tled ‘With Much Quiet Fer­vour’ on the his­tory of Dunlavin Catholic Par­ish and St Ni­cholas of Myra Church was launched at the har­vest fes­ti­val. The book is now on sale in the par­ish of­fice, at the back of the church, Ed’s Fruit and Veg and Whe­lan’s Phar­macy. The 80 paged book costs €5 and would be of in­ter­est to peo­ple both within and beyond the par­ish. It would also make a very nice gift to send to lo­cals who are liv­ing abroad. All pro­ceeds from the sale of the book go to the par­ish. Would make a great lit­tle Christ­mas present for a loved one.


The Cul­ture Bus will travel to Dublin on De­cem­ber 16 leav­ing Dunlavin at 11 a.m. and leav­ing Dublin at 6 p.m. Soak up the Christ­mas at­mos­phere with Vladamir’s Vi­en­nese Christ­mas in the Con­cert Hall at 3 p.m. A very nice Art Ex­hi­bi­tion run­ning in the Chester Beatty Li­brary (Free) To book a seat on the bus for the trip tele­phone 097 9693960. The friend­ship club is meet­ing ev­ery Fri­day from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the par­ish cen­tre. New mem­bers al­ways wel­come.


We’re at mid­day Mass on the sec­ond Sun­day of the month and 10 a.m. Mass on the fourth Sun­day of the month. We’re al­ways open to new mem­bers We prac­tice af­ter Mass, you don’t need to be able to read mu­sic to join in the singing and there’s no pres­sure to at­tend ev­ery time.

The Friend­ship Club are vis­it­ing New­bridge Sil­ver­ware on De­cem­ber 5 where they will as al­ways do their Christ­mas Shop­ping and fin­ish off with Af­ter­noon Tea. There will be no Friend­ship Club at the cen­tre on De­cem­ber 5. we will meet on De­cem­ber 12 as usual 2.15 p.m. to 4.15 p.m. and we take our Christ­mas Hol­i­days till Wed­nes­day,

The Par­ish Christ­mas Raf­fle will be held af­ter evening Mass on Satur­day, De­cem­ber 15. Boys and Girls Santa may call by on a brief visit - so we await in an­tic­i­pa­tion.
