Eurovision 2018

It looked like an exciting night for all of the Irish contingent at Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon. Portugal put on a spectacular show featuring four upbeat female hosts and some amazing pyrotechniques. Ireland’s Ryan O’Shaughnessy performing the song ‘Together’ was broadcast in the final three performances.

Meanwhile back at the ranch supporters gathered in Horan’s to cheer on Ireland’s entry, co-written by our very own Cappy Caplice (or as Marty Whelan referred to him as Cappy Capleece). It was a great achievement for the entry to make it through the semi-finals and whatever happened after that was going to be fair game. In this competition anything goes and anything can win.

During voting Ireland was moved up and down the leader board adding to the suspense, though it became clear that we were not going to catch up with the leaders Cyprus and Israel. The popular vote added an unexpected element to the voting shooting some countries up to the top five.

In the end Ireland came in 16th, not a shabby performance at all and a credit to the songwriters. Well done to them for putting Ireland back in the Eurovision game. Everyone in Baltinglass was and is proud of Cappy’s part in that.
