The West Wicklow Historical Society will host a lecture by John Martin, who served in the Defence Forces for more than 40 years, marking the centenary of the end of the Great War, The Battle of the Somme. It will be held in Timmins’s Bar (upstairs), Weavers’ Square in Baltinglass at 8 p.m. this Wednesday, November 7.
John Martin retired with the rank of Brigadier General. During his military career he held appointments at command and staff levels both at home and on service abroad with the United Nations. He is keenly interested in military history and the history of Great War in particular. There is a small cover charge of €5 which includes tea or coffee after the lecture.
