His­tory lec­ture

The West Wick­low His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety will host a lec­ture by John Martin, who served in the De­fence Forces for more than 40 years, mark­ing the cen­te­nary of the end of the Great War, The Battle of the Somme. It will be held in Tim­mins’s Bar (up­stairs), Weavers’ Square in Balt­in­glass at 8 p.m. this Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 7.

John Martin re­tired with the rank of Bri­gadier General. Dur­ing his mil­i­tary ca­reer he held ap­point­ments at com­mand and staff lev­els both at home and on ser­vice abroad with the United Na­tions. He is keenly in­ter­ested in mil­i­tary his­tory and the his­tory of Great War in par­tic­u­lar. There is a small cover charge of €5 which in­cludes tea or cof­fee after the lec­ture.
