Wicklow People (West Edition) - - NEWS -

WEDNESDAY was a special day for the O’Kane family in Baltinglass as not one, but two members of the family enjoyed their conferring day at Maynooth University.

Thomas and Seán O’Kane were among the 613 students to graduate last week and were awarded PhD and MSc Degrees respectively.

Thomas, who works with

Suzuki Motor Corporation, was awarded a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering for his research on ‘High Fidelity Modelling in Motorcycle Dynamics’ under Professor of Electronic Engineering John Ringwood.

‘I was motivated by working in this area, and I felt a PhD would help me in my work and make a contribution to the field,’ he said.

His son, Seán, who graduated with an MSc, is now embarking on a PhD in the field of environmental monitoring and remote sensing under Dr Tim McCarthy, in the National Centre of Geocomputation at Maynooth.

The university, Ireland’s fastest growing university, held an extra day of conferring this year with 13 ceremonies taking place altogether.
