SHILLELAGH

BREAKING NEWS: The walkway around the perimeter of our spiritual home and theatre of dreams is now complete and open for business.

Wheelchair accessible the walkway (625 metres) is open to all enthusiasts and for anyone unable to avail of it during daylight hours the lighting will trigger at sunset and will remain on until 9.30 pm. Well done to contractor Tom McDonald and his crew for a job well done. Club chairman Mark Dempsey, Secretary Richard Lambert and committee member Lar Behan did Trojan work in getting the project up and running and completed.

A huge thank you to Mayo native Alan Togher, now living in Coollattin, and his young man Donnacha without whom the lighting system might still be at the planning stage.

Once the poles were erected enter Enda Foley and David Cullen who in weather conditions during which you would be reluctant to put out a milk bottle performed heroics to ensure the lighting system was complete ahead of schedule. A fantastic effort from all involved and we hope the walkway will be utilised by all enthusiasts.

The combination drawn in the club lotto draw on Tuesday, 30th October was 2, 20, 23 and 28. There was no jackpot winner. Megan O’Reilly, Chapel Lane, was the sole match 3 winner and procured 100 Euro, Tommy Murphy on the promoter’s prize again.

The next draw with the jackpot an enticing 3,800 Euro was scheduled for Monday last 12th November. Results will be available to all interested parties on Tuesday morning in all local business outlets, on the club facebook page and in next week’s club notes. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

A fantastic day for beautiful Shillelagh on Saturday last 10th of November with the unveiling of the magnificent Shillelagh stick sculpture in the village park. The post unveiling presentation in the Courthouse and the launch of the heritage booklet and trail was informative and brilliantly done. A credit to all involved. To the Shillelagh Peoples Property Committee and all involved take a bow, also to the S-P-P Committee your generous contribution to the installation of the lighting system at the Fairgreen walkway was most welcome and much appreciated again well done and Thank You.

Our local fitness enthusiast Jimmy Schoeb not one for letting the grass grow under his feet and with the walkway now available is starting a pre-festive season couch to 5K on this Wednesday evening, 14th November at the Fairgreen.

Commencing at 7 p.m. the exercise is open to all ages and fitness levels. Jimmy will of course bring his expertise to the project and will of course advise all enthusiasts prior to starting. Just a few pointers from Jimmy to anyone intending to take part, avoid food consumption 90 minutes prior to start time, drink plenty of water, wear suitable footwear and also bring a suitable drink to the venue. All the best to Jimmy and all participants.

The Miley Cup was a special guest along with Senior football captain Dean Healy and a number of the other senior players which was great to see.
