In the coming months Baltinglass Fair Trade+ is promoting its ‘Stand4fairness-4-the-environment’ project in the locality. The project is funded by Wicklow County Council as part of Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund 2018. The aim is to encourage a decrease in the use of plastics and an increase in recycling rates in our community. Baltinglass Fair Trade+ will be working with local businesses, schools and clubs to make this happen.

The project got off to a great start during the summer, when 12 cafés and pubs throughout West Wicklow came on board with the Refill.ie initiative, promising visitors no-quibble tap water refills when they present re-useable containers. While endeavouring to expand the Refill.ie project, Baltinglass Fair Trade+ is also introducing the Conscious Cup initiative to the area. With this, customers who present their own re-useable coffee cups for takeaways are rewarded with something off the price or extra loyalty points.

The first of a series of community awareness events will take place in Baltinglass on Saturday, December 1, and plans are under way for this (details to follow). Information boards are also being prepared for display in locations within the community and information leaflets will also be available. Look out for the ‘Stand4fairness-4-the-environment’ project and help our community lead the way in decreasing plastics and increasing recycling.
