The incident occurred on the Carnew to Aughrim Road shortly after 2 p.m. and Mr Byrne was fatally injured when he came off his motorcycle at Hillbrook Lower. It is believed that he was travelling towards Tinahely at the time.

The road was closed off overnight and examinations were conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators yesterday morning, Tuesday.

A post-mortem was carried out at Naas Hospital.

Mr Byrne, who worked in Tinahely as a mechanic, was well known in the area and was the son of Mary and the late Michael Byrne. He was one of nine children in the family and a past pupil of Coláiste Bhríde, Carnew.

According to Cllr Pat Doran who lives in Carnew, Mr Byrne was a well liked young man who had a passion for motorbikes. ‘He was a grand chap, very nice and his family have lived in Emmet Place for the last 40 years. They are shattered by this news. It is very sad,’ he said.
