FRIEDREICH’S ATAXIA CARDS

This year’s Christ­mas cards for Friedreich’s Ataxia re­search have just gone on sale. There are lots of new de­signs and hope­fully there should be some­thing to suit all tastes. They are great value at 15 Ir­ish made cards for €8 of which €5 goes di­rectly to the char­ity. They are avail­able at all the fol­low­ing out­lets – Dunlavin: Cen­tra, Whe­lan’s Phar­macy, Dunlavin Health Cen­tre and the Parish Cen­tre. Donard: John OKe­effe and Cafe. The Friedreich’s Ataxia or­gan­i­sa­tion (www, faraire­land.ie) has sup­ported two dif­fer­ent re­search projects dur­ing 2018 to the tune of €14,000. They are hop­ing that with your sup­port they may be able to co-fund a fur­ther project be­fore the end of the year. Cards can also be got di­rectly by email­ing marykear­[email protected]

TURN­ING ON THE LIGHTS

Dunlavin and District Fo­rum in­vites ev­ery­one to come along to the 2018 Dunlavin Christ­mas Lights Switch On event on De­cem­ber 1 Meet­ing at 5.45 p.m. at Mar­ket House. Join us for some Carol Singing fol­lowed by a mince pie and mulled wine re­cep­tion af­ter­wards in the Mar­ket House. The Christ­mas Fair will take place on Sun­day, De­cem­ber 2, at mid­day to 4 p.m. Santa ar­rives at 3 p.m. To book a stall con­tact Bernie at 086 2872619.

SYM­PA­THY

Sym­pa­thy is ex­tended to the Deer­ing fam­ily, Mill­town, on the re­cent death of Moira Deer­ing, widow of the late Ge­orge Deer­ing. Moira is mourned by her sons Nor­man and Mar­cus, daugh­ter Orla. Moira’s fu­neral took place in Dublin. May she rest in peace.

The death also took place last week of Jerry Whe­lan, Knock­sters Hil, Five Cross Roads, Jerry’ s fu­neral took place in Monasterev­in, may he rest in peace.

PARISH HIS­TORY BOOK

A new book by Chris Lawlor en­ti­tled ‘With Much Quiet Fer­vour’ on the his­tory of Dunlavin Catholic Parish and St Ni­cholas of Myra Church was launched at the har­vest fes­ti­val. The book is now on sale in the parish of­fice, at the back of the church, Ed’s Fruit and Veg and Whe­lan’s Phar­macy.

The 80 paged book costs €5 and would be of in­ter­est to peo­ple both within and be­yond the parish. It would also make a very nice gift to send to lo­cals who are liv­ing abroad. All pro­ceeds from the sale of the book go to the parish. Would make a great lit­tle Christ­mas present for a loved one.

CUL­TURE BUS

The Cul­ture Bus will travel to Dublin on De­cem­ber 16 leav­ing Dunlavin at 11 a.m. and leav­ing Dublin at 6 p.m. Soak up the Christ­mas at­mos­phere with Vladamir’s Vi­en­nese Christ­mas in the Con­cert Hall at 3 p.m. To book a seat on the bus for ei­ther trips tele­phone 097 9693960. Peo­ple wish­ing to go to the con­cert must pur­chase their own tick­ets.

SE­NIOR CIT­I­ZENS PARTY

Dunlavin’s se­nior cit­i­zens Christ­mas party will be held in the Imaal Hall on Sun­day, Novem­ber 25. In­vites will be sent out in the com­ing weeks.

FRIEND­SHIP CLUB

The friend­ship club is meet­ing ev­ery Fri­day from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the parish cen­tre. New mem­bers al­ways wel­come.

THE FOLK GROUP

We’re at mid­day Mass on the sec­ond Sun­day of the month and 10 a.m. Mass on the fourth Sun­day of the month. We’re al­ways open to new mem­bers We prac­tice after Mass, you don’t need to be able to read mu­sic to join in the singing and there’s no pres­sure to at­tend ev­ery time.

We en­joy singing uplift­ing mod­ern hymns as well as a few of the beau­ti­ful tra­di­tional ones. If you’re in­ter­ested in join­ing us, con­tact Suzanne at 087 2977794 or speak to one of us after Mass.

TD John Brady will hold a clinic in Dunlavin parish cen­tre on the sec­ond Mon­day of each month from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. All wel­come to drop in.
