A WEST Wicklow teenager is brimming with excitement ahead of her appearance on the Late Late Toy Show.

Rachel Coyne (15), right, from Donard was asked to audition for a spot on the most popular Christmas show in the country in recent weeks and was told straight away that she would appear on the show.

Daughter of Brendan and Karen Coyne, Rachel’s talent was spotted by the RTE production team on a video she posted online.

‘They asked Rachel to audition and she found out on the same day that she got a spot. She was on it when she was 11 so they sort of knew her,’ Rachel’s dad Brendan said.

On that occasion, Rachel wowed the audience with her rendition Sam Smyth’s ‘Stay with Me’ and show host Ryan Tubridy made reference to singer Hozier and that great performers were coming out of Wicklow.

While Rachel must keep her 2018 performance details a secret until the live show,’ Brendan says she is very much looking forward to it, and that her family is very proud of her.

Rachel studies music at St Kevin’s Community College, Dunlavin and is a member of the West Wicklow Choir.
