West Wicklow to be a ‘no poster’ zone for elections

Wicklow People (West Edition) - - NEWS -

A MOTION to make West Wicklow a poster-free zone during the upcoming Local Election campaign was passed by the Baltinglass Municipal District members on Monday.

The six sitting councillors voted in favour of the move which follows similar motions passed in Arklow and Wicklow towns.

While it is not legally binding, it is hoped that prospective candidates will abide by the rule and Baltinglass Municipal District officials intend to write to each candidate who has delcared their intention to run for election to Wicklow County Council in the district.

‘We were all in agreement that it would be best to have Baltinglass Electoral Area as a poster-free district during the local elections,’ said Cllr Gerry O’Neill.

‘While there is no mechanism in place to enforce this rule, it is hoped that out of goodwill and respect for the council’s decision, that all candidates will comply,’ he added.
