COU­PLES GET READY TO STEP OUT FOR STRICTLY FUNDRAISER

A night of fan­tas­tic en­ter­tain­ment is on the way as 13 cou­ples get ready to take to the floor for a Strictly Come Danc­ing com­pe­ti­tion in aid of Wick­low Ed­u­cate To­gether na­tional school.

Tick­ets go on sale on Eventbrite.ie this com­ing Fri­day for the dance ex­trav­a­ganza tak­ing place in the Parkview Ho­tel in New­town­moun­tkennedy on Satur­day, March 30, when mem­bers of the au­di­ence will have the priv­i­lege of de­cid­ing the win­ners.

Wick­low Strictly Come Danc­ing was launched in Fitz­patrick’s pub in Wick­low town amid high ex­cite­ment as 26 dancers drawn from par­ents, staff and friends of the school, waited to hear who their dance part­ner would be.

The pairs and the style of dance they will be per­form­ing, were an­nounced with fan­fare as ev­ery­one clapped and cheered. The pair­ings are: Janet An­drews and Anna Good­ere, Disco; Louise Nel­son and Leanne Perry, Charleston; Grainne Grauer and Natalie Moy­ano Gon­za­lez, Jazz; Diane Richard­son and Maeve Doyle, Rock n Roll; Aine McGowan and Ea­monn O’Han­ra­han, Jive; Carmel Mul­li­gan and Michael Flynn, Vi­en­nesse Waltz; Jan­ice Doyle and Damien Power, Amer­i­can Smooth;Kate Cahill and Mark Pick­er­ing, Salsa; Jenny Le­vis and Damien O’Rourke, Paso Doble; Egle Brizgiene and Paul Doyle, Quick­step; Lynne Bailie and Ian John­ston, Tango; Fran Man­ning and Billy Raf­ferty. Cha Cha Cha; Adele Kelly and Joe Kir­wan, Charleston.

A num­ber of dancers are still look­ing for spon­sor­ship and ad­ver­tis­ers are also sought for the brochure which will be sold on the night. The event is an im­por­tant fundraiser for Wick­low Ed­u­cate To­gether, to help to­wards vi­tal re­sources and ser­vices in the school.

An au­di­ence of 500 is ex­pected to at­tend the com­pe­ti­tion, which will be scored by a team of dance judges af­ter each per­for­mance but the fi­nal de­ci­sion on who wins will rest with mem­bers of the pub­lic.

Au­di­ence mem­bers will be able to buy as many votes on the night, adding an ex­tra el­e­ment to the fundrais­ing.

The par­tic­i­pants have prac­tised their dance steps dur­ing an in­ten­sive three-hour train­ing ses­sion and will con­tinue to train un­der pro­fes­sional chore­og­ra­phers for the next five weeks.

They will com­pete for the top prize of a Crazy Glaz­ing Plate cre­ated by chil­dren of the school.

Wick­low Ed­u­cate To­gether Strictly Come Danc­ing has been spon­sored by Ama­zon De­vel­op­ments who will launch Car­raig Beag in Wick­low town this spring.
