Magpies keep title hopes alive
NEWTOWN United reignited their Andy McEvoy Premier Division title hopes with a 3-1 win over rivals St Peter’s on Sunday.
Aaron Byrne gave the Magpies a first-half lead but Niall Vaughan drew St Peter’s level on the hour mark and they looked liked getting the point they needed for the title.
However, Newtown had other ideas and Sean Heffernan fired them in front with 90 minutes on the clock.
They sealed the deal in injury time when Dillon Carthy won a penalty and tucked it away himself to keep the dream very much alive.
They now need to win their remaining three games to pip the saints by a point.
