Events in the East Coast Na­ture Re­serve

BIRD­WATCH Ire­land’s East Coast Na­ture Re­serve in New­cas­tle will also host dif­fer­ent events and ac­tiv­i­ties as part of ‘Con­nect­ing Wick­low + Na­ture in Wick­low 2019’.

The ini­tia­tive came from Wick­low County Coun­cil’s Her­itage Of­fice and pro­vides op­por­tu­ni­ties for ev­ery­one to learn more about the county’s bio­di­ver­sity and to get in­volved in hands-on con­ser­va­tion.

Events started in May but the East Coast Na­ture Re­serve will be ex­plor­ing dif­fer­ent as­pects of na­ture each month up un­til De­cem­ber. Things start with a spe­cial chil­dren’s event called ‘Sounds, Sights and Sun­prints of the Wood­land’ tak­ing place on June 15. On Sun­day, July 14 the theme will be ‘Noc­tur­nal Vis­i­tors – Bats and Moths’, while on Sun­day, Au­gust 11 the fo­cus will be on ‘Dis­cover the Re­serve – But­ter­fly Walk and Seed Bomb Work­shop’.

The theme for Sun­day, Septem­ber 8 will be ‘Spec­ta­cle of Mi­gra­tion – Swifts, Swal­lows and Martins’, while on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 13 it will be ‘Birds on Feed­ers – Gar­den Bird Work­shop’.

The event on Sun­day, Novem­ber 17 will be ‘Win­ter Mi­grants – Water­fowl’ and De­cem­ber 15 it will be ‘Fes­tive Wildlife Walk and Wreath Mak­ing Work­shop’.
