Events in the East Coast Nature Reserve
BIRDWATCH Ireland’s East Coast Nature Reserve in Newcastle will also host different events and activities as part of ‘Connecting Wicklow + Nature in Wicklow 2019’.
The initiative came from Wicklow County Council’s Heritage Office and provides opportunities for everyone to learn more about the county’s biodiversity and to get involved in hands-on conservation.
Events started in May but the East Coast Nature Reserve will be exploring different aspects of nature each month up until December. Things start with a special children’s event called ‘Sounds, Sights and Sunprints of the Woodland’ taking place on June 15. On Sunday, July 14 the theme will be ‘Nocturnal Visitors – Bats and Moths’, while on Sunday, August 11 the focus will be on ‘Discover the Reserve – Butterfly Walk and Seed Bomb Workshop’.
The theme for Sunday, September 8 will be ‘Spectacle of Migration – Swifts, Swallows and Martins’, while on Sunday, October 13 it will be ‘Birds on Feeders – Garden Bird Workshop’.
The event on Sunday, November 17 will be ‘Winter Migrants – Waterfowl’ and December 15 it will be ‘Festive Wildlife Walk and Wreath Making Workshop’.
