Cllr Pat Kennedy elected as Leas Cathaoirleach
CLLR Pat Kennedy was elected as Leas Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council at last week’s meeting.
Cllr Joe Behan began by nominating Cllr Jennifer Whitmore. ‘It’s fair and reasonable that one half of the council have decided on the Cathaoirleach, it would be representative of the other 50 per cent to elect the Leas Cathaoirleach. He said that Cllr Whitmore is ‘effective, collegiate, cooperative, pleasant and helpful’, and that she had been endorsed with a magnificent vote. ‘She has very positive ideas and is a very positive person,’ said Cllr Behan. ‘She has done a huge amount of work, particularly in Greystones, and there is nobody more suitable to assist the Cathaoirleach.’
Cllr Pat Fitzgerald nominated his FF party colleague Cllr Pat Kennedy. ‘He’s a workaholic and available all the time,’ said Cllr Fitzgerald. He said that Cllr Kennedy had received a huge vote, a measure of the esteem in which he is held in the Arklow Municipal District. ‘He would be a very effective Leas Cathaoirleach for Wicklow County Council and a tremendous assistance.’
Cllr Kennedy was elected with the same 17/15 split, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael members joining on one side, and all remaining councillors on the other.
