Cllr Pat Kennedy elected as Leas Cathaoir­leach

CLLR Pat Kennedy was elected as Leas Cathaoir­leach of Wick­low County Coun­cil at last week’s meet­ing.

Cllr Joe Be­han be­gan by nom­i­nat­ing Cllr Jennifer Whit­more. ‘It’s fair and rea­son­able that one half of the coun­cil have de­cided on the Cathaoir­leach, it would be rep­re­sen­ta­tive of the other 50 per cent to elect the Leas Cathaoir­leach. He said that Cllr Whit­more is ‘ef­fec­tive, col­le­giate, co­op­er­a­tive, pleasant and help­ful’, and that she had been en­dorsed with a mag­nif­i­cent vote. ‘She has very pos­i­tive ideas and is a very pos­i­tive per­son,’ said Cllr Be­han. ‘She has done a huge amount of work, par­tic­u­larly in Grey­stones, and there is nobody more suit­able to as­sist the Cathaoir­leach.’

Cllr Pat Fitzger­ald nom­i­nated his FF party col­league Cllr Pat Kennedy. ‘He’s a worka­holic and avail­able all the time,’ said Cllr Fitzger­ald. He said that Cllr Kennedy had re­ceived a huge vote, a mea­sure of the es­teem in which he is held in the Arklow Mu­nic­i­pal Dis­trict. ‘He would be a very ef­fec­tive Leas Cathaoir­leach for Wick­low County Coun­cil and a tremen­dous as­sis­tance.’

Cllr Kennedy was elected with the same 17/15 split, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael mem­bers join­ing on one side, and all re­main­ing coun­cil­lors on the other.
