Joy for Darragh and Tiar­nan

Three Cas­tles row­ers en­joy suc­cess­ful Athlone Re­gatta

THREE CAS­TLES ROW­ING CLUB from Bless­ing­ton trav­elled to Coosan Point for the Athlone Re­gatta last Satur­day.

Tiar­nan McKnight just lost out to Brian Colsh of Sligo Row­ing Club by one lenght in the fi­nal of the U18 sin­gle sculls.

Tiar­nan dou­bled up with Darragh O ‘rien for the U18 double sculls event. They qual­i­fied eas­ily from the heats and led from the start to win the fi­nal eas­ily with CRCC from Gal­way com­ing in sec­ond.

In the U16 sin­gles Eoin McLoughlin just lost out in his heat by half a length to qual­ify for the fi­nal.

Eoin came in sec­ond in a heat of five with only the winner in each heat to go for­ward to the fi­nal. It was very close for Emily Erwin and Orla O’Lough­lin in their heat of the U18 double sculls as they lost out to Belfast Row­ing Club in a photo finish for third. Bet­ter luck next time for Emily and Orla as only three qual­i­fied for the fi­nal.

In the U16 sin­gle sculls, Orla took the bronze com­ing in third be­hind Com­mer­cial and Belfast clubs. The club are look­ing for­ward to Cork City Re­gatta next week­end which will be held at the Na­tional Row­ing Cen­tre at Innscarra.
