CLLR Gerry O’Neill was elected Cathaoirleach of Baltinglass Municipal District at the first annual meeting of the new five-year term.

Cllr Patsy Glennon nominated Cllr O’Neill and this was seconded by Cllr Edward Timmins.

The vote was unanimous with members offering their support and best wishes to the newly elected chair for the year ahead. Cllr Patsy Glennon was elected as Leas Cathaoirleach.

Cllr Vincent Blake and Cllr Avril Cronin were appointed to the Wicklow County Council Joint Policing Committee. Cllr O’Neill was appointed to the Local Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee and Cllr Glennon was appointed to the Wicklow County Council Tourism Ltd.

Cllr O’Neill thanked members and extended a welcome to newly elected councillors. He said one of his priorities was to carry out a ‘health check’ in west Wicklow around local issues on housing, and other infrastructure. ‘People feel they have been left behind,’ said Cllr O’Neill. ‘West Wicklow is a ‘gateway for tourism but the infrastructure is not in place.’

A motion was put forward to look into this with any results to be presented to the relevant government departments.
