New extension officially open
MINISTER Simon Harris and Archbishop Diarmuid Martin were the guests of honour at the official opening of the new building extension at St Joseph’s National School, Templerainey.
There were great celebrations at the school on Monday last as local TD Mr Harris officially opened the new extension, ‘Cluain na nÓg’. Archbishop Martin was also present and offered a special blessing for the occasion. Some of the children read prayers during the event while music was provided by Michael Kennedy, Bridget Kenny and the school choir. After the ceremony, refreshments were enjoyed in the school hall, provided by the parents’ council.
This new extension means that all the pupils in St Joseph’s NS are now accommodated in permanent classrooms. The project saw the replacement of 13 temporary prefabs with ten mainstream classrooms and four special educational needs classrooms. There was also some refurbishment of the special educational needs classrooms for children with autism.
St Joseph’s NS is a co-educational school with 650 pupils and 55 staff. There are 24 mainstream classrooms, five classrooms for children with special educational requirements, a computer room, general purpose room, PE hall and nine learning support classrooms.
