New extension of­fi­cially open

MIN­IS­TER Si­mon Har­ris and Arch­bishop Diar­muid Martin were the guests of hon­our at the of­fi­cial open­ing of the new build­ing extension at St Joseph’s Na­tional School, Tem­plerainey.

There were great cel­e­bra­tions at the school on Mon­day last as lo­cal TD Mr Har­ris of­fi­cially opened the new extension, ‘Clu­ain na nÓg’. Arch­bishop Martin was also present and of­fered a spe­cial bless­ing for the occasion. Some of the chil­dren read prayers dur­ing the event while mu­sic was pro­vided by Michael Kennedy, Brid­get Kenny and the school choir. Af­ter the cer­e­mony, re­fresh­ments were en­joyed in the school hall, pro­vided by the par­ents’ coun­cil.

This new extension means that all the pupils in St Joseph’s NS are now ac­com­mo­dated in per­ma­nent class­rooms. The project saw the re­place­ment of 13 tem­po­rary pre­fabs with ten mainstream class­rooms and four spe­cial ed­u­ca­tional needs class­rooms. There was also some re­fur­bish­ment of the spe­cial ed­u­ca­tional needs class­rooms for chil­dren with autism.

St Joseph’s NS is a co-ed­u­ca­tional school with 650 pupils and 55 staff. There are 24 mainstream class­rooms, five class­rooms for chil­dren with spe­cial ed­u­ca­tional re­quire­ments, a com­puter room, gen­eral pur­pose room, PE hall and nine learn­ing sup­port class­rooms.
