Rathdrum Cartoon Festival taking shape ahead of July return
THE annual Rathdrum International Cartoon Festival returns on July 13 and 14 this year.
A fun festival opening kicks off at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, in the square, where there will be fancy dress prizes for children aged four to six years, seven to nine years and ten to 12 years, as well as a prize for the best fancy dress family.
On Sunday, there will be a street market on Main Street, a dog show at 4 p.m. in the Parnell Memorial Park and music from Big Digger, Feel the Pinch and more. The winners of the monster draw will also be drawn in the square on Sunday. There is a top prize of a holiday for a family of four to Disneyland Florida (or a cash prize of €4,000) up for grabs, as well as runner-up prize of a European city break for two adults (or a cash prize of €1,000). Tickets cost €10 are available from committee members, in local shops around the town or on the weekend itself.
Both days will feature appearances by international cartoonists, live caricatures and classes, while the Fairy Hooper and Lisa Lioness will also be there to entertain the children.
Entries are now welcome for the annual children’s ‘Create your own Cartoon Character Art Competition’ and these should be left into the post office in Rathdrum on or before noon on Saturday, June 29.
The committee is also seeking some extra stewards to help out during the festival. Anyone who can help is asked to leave their contact details in the Coffin Shed Cafe, behind the Cartoon Inn.
