Rath­drum Car­toon Fes­ti­val tak­ing shape ahead of July re­turn

THE an­nual Rath­drum In­ter­na­tional Car­toon Fes­ti­val re­turns on July 13 and 14 this year.

A fun fes­ti­val open­ing kicks off at 2 p.m. on Satur­day, July 13, in the square, where there will be fancy dress prizes for chil­dren aged four to six years, seven to nine years and ten to 12 years, as well as a prize for the best fancy dress fam­ily.

On Sun­day, there will be a street mar­ket on Main Street, a dog show at 4 p.m. in the Par­nell Memo­rial Park and mu­sic from Big Dig­ger, Feel the Pinch and more. The win­ners of the mon­ster draw will also be drawn in the square on Sun­day. There is a top prize of a hol­i­day for a fam­ily of four to Dis­ney­land Florida (or a cash prize of €4,000) up for grabs, as well as runner-up prize of a Euro­pean city break for two adults (or a cash prize of €1,000). Tick­ets cost €10 are avail­able from com­mit­tee mem­bers, in lo­cal shops around the town or on the week­end it­self.

Both days will fea­ture ap­pear­ances by in­ter­na­tional car­toon­ists, live car­i­ca­tures and classes, while the Fairy Hooper and Lisa Li­on­ess will also be there to en­ter­tain the chil­dren.

En­tries are now wel­come for the an­nual chil­dren’s ‘Cre­ate your own Car­toon Char­ac­ter Art Com­pe­ti­tion’ and these should be left into the post of­fice in Rath­drum on or be­fore noon on Satur­day, June 29.

The com­mit­tee is also seek­ing some ex­tra stew­ards to help out dur­ing the fes­ti­val. Any­one who can help is asked to leave their con­tact de­tails in the Cof­fin Shed Cafe, be­hind the Car­toon Inn.
