Family-themed Coimín Greenway 5k a success
THE inaugural Coimín Greenway 5k and family fun day took place last weekened in The Avon, Blessington. Organised by Blessington AFC, the emphasis was on bringing the local community together and creating an event in which both parents and children could take part.
The 5k route saw runners race through Ireland’s first ever E-Greenway. Maintaining the environmentally-friendly theme, sustainable water stations were provided by Refill Ireland and volunteers from Blessington Tidy Towns were on hand to keep the course in pristine condition.
The overall winner on the day was Mick Coyle who finished in a time of 16:56, second place, and the first woman home was Linda Byrne in 17:52, Oisin McGrath was third in 18:21. The second-placed woman was Michelle Cox who finished in a time of 18:25. In the men’s over50s event, Stephen Willoughby (20:22) was first past the line, David Johnson (23:24) was the first male junior home, Conor Kenny (23:45) was the best of the over-60s.
The first woman over-50 was Theresa Geoghan Byrne (25:21), and junior Jessy Kelly (27:04).
