Fam­ily-themed Coimín Green­way 5k a suc­cess

THE in­au­gu­ral Coimín Green­way 5k and fam­ily fun day took place last weekened in The Avon, Bless­ing­ton. Or­gan­ised by Bless­ing­ton AFC, the em­pha­sis was on bring­ing the lo­cal com­mu­nity to­gether and cre­at­ing an event in which both par­ents and chil­dren could take part.

The 5k route saw run­ners race through Ire­land’s first ever E-Green­way. Main­tain­ing the en­vi­ron­men­tally-friendly theme, sus­tain­able wa­ter sta­tions were pro­vided by Re­fill Ire­land and vol­un­teers from Bless­ing­ton Tidy Towns were on hand to keep the course in pris­tine con­di­tion.

The over­all win­ner on the day was Mick Coyle who fin­ished in a time of 16:56, sec­ond place, and the first wo­man home was Linda Byrne in 17:52, Oisin McGrath was third in 18:21. The sec­ond-placed wo­man was Michelle Cox who fin­ished in a time of 18:25. In the men’s over50s event, Stephen Wil­loughby (20:22) was first past the line, David John­son (23:24) was the first male ju­nior home, Conor Kenny (23:45) was the best of the over-60s.

The first wo­man over-50 was Theresa Geoghan Byrne (25:21), and ju­nior Jessy Kelly (27:04).
