Good day for the rowers

Wicklow People (West Edition) - - SPORT -

WELL done to all the Wicklow crews who competed in the two-day Dalkey Regatta over the weekend at Scotsman’s Bay Sandycove.

Wicklow Rowing Club’s under-12s recorded their first ever win at the event. Congratulations girl. The club’s under-14s also enjoyed another terrific win.

The club’s two under-16s boys crews finished second and third and the under-16 girls were also third.

Wicklow Rowing Club’s under-18 boys were only beaten in to second by less than a meter, and likewise for the Junior ladies who finished a very tight race in second spot.

The Intermediate men were leading all the way until they lost an oar and were pipped on the line, getting silver for their troubles.

The club’s Junior men had worse luck when they broke an oar on the first turn, while the Senior ladies finished came home second in a very close race.

With a little luck and hard training all these seconds can easily turn to wins. Wicklow Rowing Club will compete in the regatta in two weeks hosted by St Patrick’s Ringsend.

Gold for the under-16 boys.

Second for Wicklow Rowing Club’s Junior ladies.
