Con­grat­u­la­tions to Seán Byrne, The Hol­low, Bal­ly­mor­ris, Aughrim, who re­cently won an all-Ire­land gold medal in the un­der-12 hand­writ­ing com­pe­ti­tion at the Com­mu­nity Games, which was held in Univer­sity of Lim­er­ick.


We are go­ing to Shelbourne Park Grey­hound Races on Tues­day night, July 16, Pack­age – which in­cludes en­try and two-course din­ner – is €25. Pay­ment has to be made two weeks in ad­vance. Bus will be ex­tra.


It’s our fi­nal week of nor­mal ath­let­ics train­ing and then we are tak­ing a break till Septem­ber. It’s been a great year. Well done to all our chil­dren, coaches, vol­un­teers, par­ents and hard­work­ing com­mit­tee. A spe­cial thank you to the field com­mit­tee and the op­por­tu­nity given to us to use our fan­tas­tic com­mu­nity sports com­plex and field. A valu­able as­set. Spe­cial train­ing will be or­gan­ised for our qual­i­fiers to UL on Au­gust 16 to Au­gust 18. Coaches will be in touch. Con­grat­u­la­tions to un­der-eight Grace Sheehy, un­der-12 Cassie O’Byrne, un­der-16 Caoimhe Mur­phy, Laci Jane Shan­non and Tom Parker. Un­der-12 long puck Liam Molloy, un­der-14 long puck Ciara O’Byrne, and our two un­der-16 re­lay teams: Girls. Laci Jane, Caoimhe, Róisín and Shauna Mixed. Tom. Caolin, Juli­ette and Han­nah on qual­i­fy­ing for Lim­er­ick. Our tag rugby teams will be in Car­low on July 6 to July 7 for the Le­in­ster semis and fi­nals, so best of luck to them.


Another fan­tas­tic week’s work again. The vil­lage is look­ing beau­ti­ful. Well done to all of those who vol­un­teered on Tues­day and Fri­day night last week clean­ing the ar­eas around the li­brary, Chapel Lane and the bridge at Law­less’. Other vol­un­teers were spot­ted through­out the week tidy­ing ar­eas along the Main Street, Red­nagh Road and Jim’s Way, to men­tion but a few. The res­i­dents’ as­so­ci­a­tions in the var­i­ous hous­ing es­tates are also busy. Huge progress is be­ing made in Croghan View and Loudres Cres­cent, with lovely fresh sum­mer bed­ding re­cently be­ing planted. Last Thurs­day a group from Aughrim Hall were also busy prun­ing and clip­ping. The num­bers 10, 18, 21 and 24 were drawn in this week’s Aughrim Sports Club Lotto. The jack­pot was not won. There were no match-three win­ners. The jack­pot is now €3,150.
