THOSE who love to pound the pave­ment and let their feet do the talk­ing will be mak­ing a bee­line for Avondale House later this week, as the his­toric site plays host to the an­nual four-day Fes­ti­val of Run­ning.

Held in aid of the Wick­low Hos­pice Foun­da­tion, the fes­ti­val takes place from Thurs­day, June 27, to Sun­day, June 30, and of­fer par­tic­i­pants the chance to run one of five dis­tances each day: five, ten, 15 or 20 miles or the full marathon dis­tance. Those tak­ing part can also opt to take part on as many days as they like.

The event takes place on a looped, five-mile course and there will be medals for all the fin­sh­ers.

The marathon starts at 8 a.m. with all other dis­tances be­gin­ning at 9 a.m. How­ever, those who need to be avail­able for school drops, etc, can opt to start at ear­lier or later time.

It costs €25 to take part on one day, €40 for two days, €70 for three days and €90 for four days, with the same price ap­ply­ing for all dis­tances.

Peo­ple can regis­ter and pay on the day but, to avoid any queues, reg­is­tra­tion is open now at­splain­sail­­lowhos­pice.
