GLENDALOUGH has become more of a gridlocked Glenda-block on recent sunny weekends, with many people ‘trapped’ in their cars trying to find places to park.
Among those struggling with the traffic jams on her frequent visits to Glendalough is Tara O’Grady, owner of Diva restaurant in Greystones,
Tara travels to the county’s beauty spot almost daily and said that the good weather, while very welcome, has caused chaotic conditions for tourists over the last number of weekends.
‘Last week I got there at 9 a.m. and when I came out at midday, Miner’s Road was blocked.’
She added that the car-park was full and vehicles couldn’t turn around. ‘Nobody in the line of cars knew if they would even get in,’ she said. ‘There were lots of children in the cars. On a sunny day you simply can’t get in. If I went to Wales or somewhere I would expect to be able to get in to see a place like Glendalough.’
Back at the village, she said, the cars were parked on both sides of the street. It took her almost an hour and a half to get from Glendalough to Laragh.
