O’HAN­LON herbs are herb grow­ers based in Gle­nealy since 1992. This year marks an­other achieve­ment they have be­come cer­ti­fied mem­bers of Ori­gin Green, which is a Bord Bia im­i­ta­tive to have food com­pa­nies tar­get waste man­age­ment., energy use and so­cial sus­tain­abil­ity. O’Han­lon Herbs so­cial sus­tain­abil­ity tar­get 2017- 2022 is to en­gage in a prac­ti­cal way with the lo­cal com­mu­nity.

To this end a herb gar­den was in­stalled in lo­cal St Josephs National school. The school chil­dren planted herbs, ed­i­ble flow­ers and let­tuces. At the re­cent open­ing day lo­cal her­bal­ist Iso­bel Keel­ing was on hand to give prac­ti­cal tips on how to use herbs and there ben­e­fits to health and well be­ing. At the end of term herbs were har­vested for use at home.

O Han­lon Herbs con­tin­ued in­vest­ment and sup­port in the project means the herb gar­den is reg­u­larly tended, re­planted , and man­aged to look its best and in­spire a young gen­er­a­tion into the ben­e­fits of grow your use, using fresh nat­u­ral flavour­ings and making a con­nec­tion with a lo­cal pro­ducer and farmer. As a lo­cal ad­di­tion to the com­mu­nity the ven­ture has been nominated by the lo­cal tidy towns com­mit­tee for an award.
