POP-UP GALLERY NOW OPEN
‘CATCHING LIGHT’ WILL EXHIBIT AT THE VENUE GALLERY UNTIL JULY 21 AND FEATURES WORKS OF THREE ARTISTS
THERE was plenty of activity in Wicklow town last Friday evening with the opening of The Venue Gallery and it’s inaugural exhibition ‘Catching Light’ featuring the work of three Wicklow based contemporary artists; painter Louise Cherry, print maker Stephanie Sloan and ceramic artist Cathy Burke.
The pop up gallery is open everyday until July 21 and brings to the main street a beautiful contemporary space, bursting with wonderful art to suit all tastes and budgets. Local artist and poet Olive Murray Power opened the evening with a wonderful speech detailing the work of the there exhibiting artists.
Louise has exhibited nationally and internationally in solo and group shows. With a masters in Visual Arts Practice from The Institute of Art, Design and Technology and a degree in Photography from The Dublin Institute of Technology, She divides her time between painting, photography and teaching.
Louise’s past artwork investigated the interplay between photography, performance, video, text, interview and sculpture.
Stephanie is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, London and the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, She is an illustrator and printmaker working from her Wicklow studio. Evident across all her work is a love of pattern and graphic form and a continued passion for the handprinted process of screen printing. Stephanie combines working on commissioned illustration with creating limited edition handprinted screen prints.
Cathy, previously a horticulturist, draws on her botanical experiences for sources of inspiration. A multi-award winner, she is the most recent recipient of the Award for Ceramics at Sculpture in Context 2018.
