Search begins for Maritime Queen
THE annual RNLI Arklow Maritime Festival returns this August bank holiday weekend and the search has begun for a festival queen.
Members of Arklow RNLI were presented with a cheque by Arklow Credit Union to go towards the Arklow Maritime Queen competition.
Entries are now open and prizes to the value of €500, including a tiara, are up for grabs. All entrants must be 18 years of age or older.
Applicants must be available for the whole August bank holiday weekend and willing to help out at different events during the year.
For more information, call Cassie Doyle on 086 0748179.
Organisers are putting the finishing touches to this year’s festival programme.
On Saturday, August 3, the Ardglass Viking ships will be providing trips up the Avoca river.
Meanwhile, Sunday, August 4, will also be a busy day with the parade of pipebands expected to take place around noon followed by the annual blessing of the fleet. There will be plenty of fun events on the quays for families to enjoy including face-painting, food and model boat stalls, bouncing castles, a Viking village, music from the Arklow Ukulele Players and the biggest climbing wall in Ireland. The RNLI shop will also be open all day.
