NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

All our teams are currently on a short mid-season break. All SSG, from under-eight through to under-11s, will return with fixtures on the weekend of August 10/11 2019. These age groups will all be regraded for when we return. The league will also look at running a cup competition for under-11s and maybe something similar for the under-10s. Under-12s are provisionally back on the weekend of July 27/28, while the under-13s will be back on the weekend of July 27/28 (further details as we get them).

The Newtownmountkennedy Area are hosting a Community Fun Day for Sunday, August 18, where all clubs and organisations in the area are invited to take part with some form of activity or event. We, as a club, will be organising something that will involve all the kids of the area. The Fun Day will run from 1 p.m. till 5 p.m. in the Community Grounds and there will be something for everyone. As we are hoping to have a Mini World cup competition running around this time, it is hoped that all finals will take place as part of the Fun Day (more details next week).

We only have one player from the club celebrating their birthday in the coming week and he is Albie Chance from the under-10s. Happy birthday Albie from everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C and have a great day. On a sadder note the club extends their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Derek Reinhardt from Newcastle, who sadly passed away last week. May he rest in peace. Congratulations to Sarah Nolan and Ronan Keddy on their recent wedding. Sarah has been a long-serving member of our ladies’ team but both bride and groom are teachers in our local Newtown primary school. Everyone in the club would like to wish you both many years of health and happiness.

Newtown ladies’ team sailed past Bray Emmets by a score line of 4-14 to 1-3 last Monday. The ladies had their first outing with their new gear. Again kindly donated by @absolutefortyseven who have been a massive supporter of our club the past couple of years.

Newtown seniors’ first championship match against Rathnew was played in great conditions last Tuesday, Newtown were leading by three points at half time and could have easily come away with a shock result however Rathnew’s experience held up in the end. Rathnew ran out four point winners in the end. Next up is Tinahely this Saturday in Aughrim at 5 p.m. It was fantastic to see such a great Newtown crowd at the Rathnew game and the team are hopeful for the same crowd for the next game.

Well done to our under-sevens and under-nines in Kilmac Go Games last week. It was great to see a couple of new faces join the under-sevens as Lucy and Evan made the jump up from our nursery programme to join Ali, Ruby, Darcy, Jake and Peter. Our under-nines are continuously developing and growing in numbers. There are 19 in the panel now with Ben playing his first match since breaking his leg and newcomers Matthew and Shane joining. Well done to all teams taking part in Ashford. It was great to see Fergal Og there and hosts Kilmac, especially for the ice pops after. Next blitz is in Newtown this coming Friday, July 19,

The lotto rolled over again and now sits at €3,400. Numbers drawn were 01, 08, 25 and 27. One person took away €200 by matching three numbers. Please buy a ticket and help support the club.

The 9s with coach Amy Cahill at Roundwood FC Soccer Camp recently.
