‘Metatron’s Cube’ at Signal
THE exhibition ‘Metatron’s Cube’ by Mary Conroy will be on at Signal Arts Centre in Bray from Monday, July 22 until Sunday, August 4.
This body of work is a part of Conroy’s continuing investigation into the Biophilia hypothesis which suggests that we humans have an innate connection to life and all living things.
During a residency at the Heinrich Böll Cottage, Achill Island, the artist began to closely examine organic structures found within the local environment when she observed similar shapes and patterns in a variety of local flora and fauna.
Parallel to this, during her research, Conroy came across the concepts of sacred geometry. In sacred geometry, Archangel Metatron, the angel of life, oversees the flow of energy in a mystical cube known as Metatron’s Cube. This structure contains all of the geometric shapes in ‘God’s’ creation and represents the patterns that make up everything ‘God’ has made.
Through observation and drawing Conroy began to de-construct the organic structures that she found and distil them into simple geometric shapes. Hexagons, pentagons and circles, along with the platonic solids became impossible to avoid. It became possible for the artist to see the structural connections between elements in the natural environment. She believes that there is a familiar and universal underlying structure within the natural world, that connects us to each other and every other living thing.
There will be an opening reception on Thursday, July 25, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
