Mary set to shut up shop at Christmas
ARKLOW woman Mary Nolan Hickey has revealed she is finishing up her coffee shop at Christmas.
Having spotted the need for a coffee shop within Coral Leisure Centre, Mary seized the opportunity and opened The Lake Coffee Shop in 2011.
‘I set it up during the recession. There was an opportunity for a little coffee shop and a meeting place for the runners,’ she said. ‘At the start, I was working late nights and split shifts to keep it going. Now, I have other plans in my head, and I’ve decided to let it go at Christmas.’
Known as a keen fitness fanatic, Mary returned earlier this month after completing her second Lap of the Map in aid of the RNLI. While she is sorry to let go of the shop, Mary says that this is the right time to move on.
‘I love it but I feel I’ve taken it as far as I can take it. Over the last two years, my journeys have changed my perspective. Besides, I’ve a few more ideas that won’t leave me alone and I’d like to look into them.’
While there will some sadness in the town at the news, Mary said she is hopeful that someone will take over the coffee shop and that there has already been some expressions of interest.
With an array of classes taking place at Coral Leisure Centre, children’s parties and other events, there is always a busy atmosphere near The Lake Coffee Shop which provides a comfortable spot for anyone to wait and treat themselves to a snack and a cup of coffee.
‘The potential is there. It’d be a nice place for someone to take over. This area of the town is beautiful and upand-coming,’ she said.
