Blues defeat Baltinglass

Wicklow People (West Edition) - - COMMUNITY NEWS -

It was certainly a night to remember for ‘Blues’ supporters last Saturday night in Aughrim with Blessington Senior Footballers defeating old enemies Baltinglass by 1-12 to 0-12 in the second round of the championship. That’s two wins from our opening two matches for the ‘Blues’ which is the perfect start in a tough group. The match against Balto was definitely a match of two halves, with the ‘Blues’ behind at the break by 0-8 to 0-5, and when Balto stretched their lead early in the second half things did not look good. But the team showed great battling qualities with a magnificent fight back and in a grandstand finish they came out on top to send their supporters delirious. The long road back from Aughrim was a very happy one for anyone connected with our club. Next up in round three will be a match against Éire Óg over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The final two matches will be against Avondale and County Champions St Patrick’s. So there is still a lot of football to be played before the knockout stages are reached. To top off a weekend to remember, our Junior A team also won in the opening round of the championship defeating neighbours Hollywood by 2-16 to 0-12 at Valleymount. Come on you ‘Blues’.
