Au­thors off to ‘Write by the Sea’

TWO Wick­low writ­ers will fea­ture promi­nently at the Write by the Sea lit­er­ary fes­ti­val tak­ing place at Kil­more Quay, Co Wex­ford, in Septem­ber.

Grey­stones au­thor Ruth Fitz­mau­rice rose to na­tional promi­nence in 2017 fol­low­ing the pub­li­ca­tion of her best-sell­ing mem­oir ‘I Found My Tribe’. The book told the story of Ruth’s life with her hus­band Si­mon as he bat­tled Mo­tor Neu­ron Dis­ease. She will be in­ter­viewed about that book at Kil­more Quay by best-sell­ing au­thor Jackie Hayden who for­merly lived in Bray.

Eleanor O’Reilly re­sides in Ark­low close to where she grew up. She teaches English and has re­ceived sev­eral awards for her writ­ing. At Write By The Sea she will talk to Eoghan Smith and Sue Leonard about her ex­pe­ri­ence of get­ting her first novel ‘M for Mammy’ pub­lished.

Lucy Moore, Chair of Write By The Sea said: ‘It’s been said that one of the key rea­sons for the success of Write By The Sea, now in its fourth year, is that we at­tract a stim­u­lat­ing mix of lo­cal, na­tional and in­ter­na­tional au­thors. So it’s very ex­cit­ing to have such re­spected fig­ures as Ruth Fitz­mau­rice and Eleanor O’Reilly in our pro­gramme for 2019.’

The fes­ti­val runs from Septem­ber 27 to 29 and other key con­trib­u­tors al­ready con­firmed in­clude Kit de Waal, Theo Dor­gan, Der­mot Bol­ger, Paula Mee­han, Mike McCor­mack, Derek Hand, Sinead Glee­son and Cather­ine Dunne.
