MEMBERS of Bray Rowing Club are being sunk because of lack of security for their small fleet of boats worth thousands of pounds.

According to the club, their boats are constantly exposed to vandals because there is nowhere available at Bray Seafront for safe storage.

And now the club is faced with a £360 repair bill to make good malicious damage committed to ond of their two boats, ‘The Endeavour’.

As club member Audrey Collins explained, the vandalism has come at a particularly bad time as the skiff had just been prepared for the season.

‘While we should be out using the skiff at all the East coast rowing regattas this summer, she is laid up with her side stoved in,’ she said.

Despite frequent representations both by themselves and by local councillors to Bray UDC, Bray Rowing Club has had no luck in acquiring a place to use as a boathouse.

‘Our applications for a site have been rejected,’ said Audrey. ‘It is very difficult for us, as we have to change in cars and use other makeshift arrangements for training.’
