Inaugural Jackie Byrne cup winner
WICKLOW Male Voice Choir held its annual golf classic at Wicklow Golf Club and presented the Jackie Byrne trophy afterwards for the first time.
The trophy was donated to the choir by the family of the late Jackie Byrne and will be awarded to the winning team of each future golf classic.
Jackie was a keen golfer from a very early age and was a juvenile member of Wicklow Golf Club. He went on to pursue a career as a grounds keeper at the famous Wentworth Golf Club, where he remained until his untimely passing in 2016. Jackie’s father Jimmy is a leading member of Wicklow Male Voice Choir.
At the presentation night held in the clubhouse after the golf classic, the chairman of Wicklow Male Voice Choir Andy Bolger, thanked the Byrne family for the trophy and their very kind gesture.
The captain of the winning team Paul Barron also paid tribute to the Byrne family and said it was an honour to be the first recipients of such a magnificent trophy,
