A Street Walk is planned for Tues­day, Au­gust 20, from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. by the West Wicklow His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety. The meet­ing point is at O’Reilly’s Fill­ing Sta­tion, Park­more. This walk­ing tour will take a trip down mem­ory lane. We will visit lo­cal shops and build­ings, and dis­cover more about their fas­ci­nat­ing his­tory and for­mer uses. It will fin­ish at St Joseph’s Church. Ad­mis­sion is free and it is suitable for chil­dren un­der-12. Car park­ing is avail­able. Look for­ward to see­ing you there.

‘THE HILLFORTS OF BALT­IN­GLASS’ – To mark Her­itage Week, West Wicklow His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety in­vites you to a talk by Ar­chae­ol­o­gist, Alan Hawkes on the ar­chae­o­log­i­cal sig­nif­i­cance of the Balt­in­glass Hill­fort com­plex with spe­cial ref­er­ence to the most re­cent dis­cov­er­ies. It will take place on Thurs­day, Au­gust 22, from 7 p.m. to 8.15 p.m. in Balt­in­glass Court­house, Weaver Square. The talk is supported by Wicklow County Coun­cil. Ad­mis­sion is free and it is suitable for chil­dren un­der-12. Car park­ing is avail­able.

‘THE BIG DIG’ – Join the School of Ir­ish Ar­chae­ol­ogy on Satur­day, Au­gust 24, on this sim­u­lated ar­chae­o­log­i­cal ex­ca­va­tion in Balt­in­glass Court­house, where kids prac­tice be­ing an ar­chae­ol­o­gist and learn more about what lies be­neath.
