Heritage Week local events
A Street Walk is planned for Tuesday, August 20, from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. by the West Wicklow Historical Society. The meeting point is at O’Reilly’s Filling Station, Parkmore. This walking tour will take a trip down memory lane. We will visit local shops and buildings, and discover more about their fascinating history and former uses. It will finish at St Joseph’s Church. Admission is free and it is suitable for children under-12. Car parking is available. Look forward to seeing you there.
‘THE HILLFORTS OF BALTINGLASS’ – To mark Heritage Week, West Wicklow Historical Society invites you to a talk by Archaeologist, Alan Hawkes on the archaeological significance of the Baltinglass Hillfort complex with special reference to the most recent discoveries. It will take place on Thursday, August 22, from 7 p.m. to 8.15 p.m. in Baltinglass Courthouse, Weaver Square. The talk is supported by Wicklow County Council. Admission is free and it is suitable for children under-12. Car parking is available.
‘THE BIG DIG’ – Join the School of Irish Archaeology on Saturday, August 24, on this simulated archaeological excavation in Baltinglass Courthouse, where kids practice being an archaeologist and learn more about what lies beneath.
