County Council told Bray estate is ‘in a shambles’

The disgraceful condition of Ballywaltrim Heights in Bray was referred to by both Dr John McManus and Councillor John Byrne at last week’s meeting of Wicklow County Council.

Dr McManus drew a round of laughter from the members when he stated that one particular light on the estate had been lighting continuously for the last three-and-a-half years while others on the estate had never shone any light. Holes made in the road had never been properly reinstated, the grass was never cut and the estate was never swept.

In general, the services provided by the council to the estate were deplorable.

Cllr Byrne, in endorsing the remarks, said he had contacted the ESB and was told the lights were a matter for the contractor.

‘The place is in a shambles,’ he said, adding that the grass should be cut immediately, the lighting attended to, and the place cleaned up in general. He also said he had been promised some months ago that a nameplate would be erected on the estate but this had not been done. Both members asked the county engineer to attend to the complaints made.
