Milk super levy could cost jobs

Serious job losses in the dairy industry have been predicted if a super levy on milk production is allowed to go ahead.

The forecast has come from well known Enniskerry farmer Harry Williams, Chairman of the IFI, who has rejected the concept of a super levy on Irish dairy farmers as ‘totally unacceptable’.

He stated that the proposed super levy would make it impossible for dairy farmers to improve their incomes through improved productivity and would, in fact, force dairy farmers to cut production because of the proposed 9p per gallon
